Posted by: Ben UhlI am known as "the outspoken conservative" in the University of Houston College of Optometry, and on this 9/11 morning one of my "operatives" brought to my attention the headline of
The Daily Cougar. It read "SPB [Student Program Board] hosts blood drive to honor victims".
Some background: I stopped reading this rag a couple years ago when I constantly would read uninformed, sheltered students who were given space in the opinion section to spout idiocy to other uninformed, sheltered students.
You may ask, "Ben, what's wrong with holding a blood drive to honor the victims of 9/11?" Well, here is the subtitle to the article: "Organization to collect blood for local hospitals and will show documentary 'Fahrenheit 9/11' as a tribute to the fallen". Read it again. That is absolutely unbelievable and they are completely serious. I would expect to see this as a pseudo-headline in
The Onion, but not in a large, state university newspaper.
This is wrong on many levels, however, the meat of the matter is that every University of Houston student contributed to this event, whether they agreed with it or not. It is disappointing at best, and an embarrassment for sure.
I have linked the article below. It is very short, and some of the quotations are pricelessly stupid.
